Following my post above about the ratio of 'Viewers' to 'Posters' I noticed that I was the only person online and there were 4 search indexing bots registered as being online. Do we know if visits by search engine bots are included in the viewing figures ? If so that would mean the number of real people viewing posts might be a lot smaller and could explain the lack of replies / activity here.

The number of views doesn't include search engines ... otherwise, given the number of scans each day, the figures would be much higher.

Also, I believe the number of views recorded will include repeat views by the same people - mostly contributors. Each contributor will be looking at replies, therefore, a thread that has seven or eight contributors will result in a relatively high view count even though there may only be a small number of individuals reading.

"What happened to the JAS? I was a member."

The Junior Astronomical Society was founded because it was felt that
the British Astronomical Association was often too erudite or technical
for beginners and youngsters. However, the term 'Junior' gradually
became an inaccurate description for many members, as the years
turned them from "Juniors" into "Seniors". Therefore a more all-encompassing
designation was sought, and the Society for Popular Astronomy was founded.

The main reason for me not posting regularly is because you tend to get "flamed" by regular contributors, e.g. Stella, for not being 100% correct all of the time.

Graham, my posts are far from academic standard and I often find the need to edit them afterwards. When it comes to what others write, I'm always eager to read new stuff and try not to quibble when I think of the max plank in my own eye, so to speak. It's always a positive when someone shares an observation. Kind thoughts, Bob

Graham, sorry to hear that. I always thought we are fairly civilised here and "flames" are few and far between. I'm sure any pedantic comments are posted with a twinkle in the eye of the poster- at least I hope so :)

regards,

Our Stella isn't a pedant, s/he's our supercomputer and spell-checker.

Oh and I NEVER get notices when posts are made even though I ALSO tick boxes, where are the MODS, I didn't get any notice that there were new posts here

Sounds like a problem for the SPAwebmaster. For clarity can you specify the boxes you are ticking which don't appear to be working please?

Thanks
