I haven't posted on here for quite some time, Facebook and lack of sky due to a great big tree being two of the reasons.
So I have a question which I have asked before but now I have revised the question.
I have the possibility of buying a goto telescope and I have researched two which are:-
1. Meade ETX80 Goto Telescope Tabletop System
and
2. Sky-Watcher Heritage 114P Virtuoso Computerised Auto-Tracking Telescope.

My question is which if any of these two scopes is worth buying?
Thank you in eager anticipation.

Any other advice would also be welcome.

Hi Zeke -welcome back :D

I have to ask whether the Skywatcher is actually a GoTo instrument. The reason is that in the description it says

"The Virtuoso mount can also be upgraded to full Go-To operation (finds thousands of celestial targets automatically) by purchasing a Synscan AZ Go-To handset and cable"

see here for instance
http://www.firstlightoptics.com/heritag ... tuoso.html

This suggests to me that the basic 114p maybe a tracking mount not a GoTo. Just a thought,

regards,

Thank you for the reply Brian.
After quite a bit of research I made up my mind for the Meade.
The Skywatcher is only a Goto if you buy the 'extra' goto device.
My wife is buying the scope for me for Christmas and her budget is £200 so it has to be the Meade.
I downloaded the manual and watched several videos describing the Meade and I/we are both satisfied.
I have read several reviews of the Meade and most are favourable, just one or two not so.
Thanks once again for the advice.

Can't wait for Christmas!
