Hi speedy,

I don't have a Canon camera so I can only repeat what I've read on astro-forums :)

The Canon cameras have a good following amongst astro-imagers, due at least in part to the several software control programs available, e.g. BackYard EOS and Astrophotography Tool are very popular. So there are good reasons to look for a canon camera for astro use.

Of the "recent" Canons the EOS 1000D and 1100D have been popular entry cameras for astro work. They seem to have whatever it is that the astro-imager needs :D . I'm not sure about the 1200D, some have commented that it may be a step back. Seems it's Digic (IV?) processor is not as good as others and I have read that in manual (bulb) long-exposure mode it is limited to iso800 only. Max iso otherwise is 12,800 (I think) which is much less than some other models have achieved.

Just some ramblings

Regards,
